Ōtepoti Food Futures: Strengthening Dunedin’s Local Food Systems
Ōtepoti Food Futures is an open, city-wide food Hui that will take place on 16th of November, 2024. Coordinated by Our Food Network (OFN), this multifaceted, full-day event will see people from all sectors collaborating to map out the changes needed to establish Ōtepoti as a food resilience pioneer in Aotearoa in the coming years.

Give To Grow: Tool Refurbishment Working Bee
On the second Saturday of each month, we run a tool refurbishment working bee from 11am-2pm, in order to get tools in a good working order before they are distributed to new owners. Everyone welcome!

Southern Growers' Weekend by Village Agrarians
Join us for a weekend of knowledge sharing, community-building, and good food. We will tour some Dunedin market gardens, have workshops centred on building networks and collaborations, and share meals featuring delicious, locally-sourced kai.
We are holding a space to bring together existing, new, and aspiring market gardeners from Otago and Southland, as well as folks interested in becoming involved with their local food system. Council staff, chefs, produce managers, grocers: meet our local growers, see some of their operations and get involved!

Grafting Workshop
Learn to graft fruit trees to create a new tree with the best features of both.
This workshop is a step by step guide to grafting fruit trees - it's a bit of fun and a great way to learn more about plants, fruit trees and genetics.
Date: Saturday, 7 September
Time: 1pm - 3.30pm
Venue: Silverstream South Primary School
Costs: $40 includes the costs of your first tree and graft
Additional Trees cost $20 each. If you wish to bring your own graftwood, we can supply limited rootstock. Tickets are limited.

Online Series - Market Garden Showcase
Village Agrarians is hosting an online speaker series in the upcoming weeks featuring growers from around the country.
Growers from around the country will share some of their techniques, their successes and challenges, and some images from their growing season. Think of it as a virtual tour/workshop where we'll learn some growing methods, business insights, and more. There will be ample time for questions following each presentation so that participants can find out more specifics about topics that are of interest to them. Each session will run for about an hour to an hour and a half.

Dunedin Vegetable Growers Club Monthly Meeting
The Dunedin Vegetable Growers Club (DVGC) promotes home food growing with talks on relevant topics, a trading table, Q&A session, library, supper, monthly garden visits.
It meets on 1st Wednesday of each month (except June&July), 7pm, at Dunedin Lawn Bowl Stadium, 38 Tahuna Rd, Dunedin. New members welcome.

Taieri Edible Garden Network Meet-Up

"Kerbside collection and local resource recovery"
Talks by Rowan Cooke and Judy Martin
Rowan Cooke from Enviro N will discuss the different elements of the DCC
kerbside collection service, including what goes in each bin and what happens
after it is collected. Rowan will also include some of the changes happening
nationally and internationally with regards to waste minimisation.
Judy Martin will talk about OneCoast, the local resource recovery centre set up
in the grounds of the Waikouaiti Transfer Station: "We are community run, with
the support of the Dunedin City Council. It has been quite a ride from the first
stirrings back in 2017 to our current 'domain'; and we want to stress how
important community engagement has been the whole way through!"

On August 23rd, 5pm - 6:30pm, we would like to invite members of the local business community, food producers, community organisers, as well as representatives from local, regional, and central government to come have an after-work drink with us. We want to inform you of what we have planned for November, while also hearing about what's important to you. We want all parties intending to attend Ōtepoti Food Futures in November to be prepared for robust, respectful, and objective-focused discussions that drive this mahi forward with our collective power.
